Spaces are classified as Hazardous Atmosphere Only if the space contains an actual or potential atmospheric hazard, which can be controlled by continuous forced ventilation.
Atmospheric testing is required prior to entry and periodically as necessary to confirm the elimination of the hazardous atmosphere. Continual forced ventilation is also required to eliminate hazardous atmosphere.
If circumstances other than a scheduled break require an interruption of work, evacuate the space. A new pre-entry certification, including a reevaluation, must be completed before resuming work.
Employees working with Hazardous Atmosphere confined spaces must also receive appropriate training.
