The most valuable asset of any production is its employees, and their safety is of utmost importance. Employee safety and security should take precedence over expediency or shortcuts in all production operations. It should be the policy of all productions to promote a safe, secure, and healthy work environment for all production employees and to comply with all applicable laws, rules and regulations governing workplace health, safety and security in the jurisdictions in which they operate. All crew, cast and contractors should be required to work in a healthy and safe manner as a condition of employment. Prevention of illness and injury is an achievable goal which, through communication, participation, training and a proactive approach to injury prevention, can be achieved.
The overall goal is to create a work environment that is safe, secure and free from injuries and work-related illnesses. Achieving this goal requires the cooperation of production management and all production employees. All production employees, department heads (HODs) and supervisors should act as a team and maintain a preventative, cooperative attitude related to overall production safety. Employees should strictly abide by all safety and security policies, rules and procedures at all times.
The success of this relies on the direct participation of the production employees. Any suggested improvements should be carefully considered for implementation. If any unsafe conditions are detected, the employee must report them immediately to his or her HOD. No employee should suffer discipline or reprisal as a result of reporting an existing or potential unsafe condition.
