This document is to provide guidance when incorporating the Netflix ident during editorial for films, in order to support the desire for Creative to view the entirety of the Feature as it will appear on Netflix.
These guidelines are only to be applied during editorial; the ident should be removed prior to delivery of the final IMF to Netflix. Our encoding workflow has the ability to add the Netflix ident to the head and tail of program.
For guidance on incorporating the Netflix credit (for Features, “Netflix Presents”), please visit the Netflix Original Credit Guidelines document.
The Netflix Ident: Source
All Netflix idents will be provided by your Post Manager/Coordinator. When requesting, please specify the following:
- Resolution (HD, UHD, 4K)
- Frame rate
- Aspect Ratio
Your Netflix Post contact will prove a link to download the appropriate version of the ident from Content Hub using Aspera Connect. Please ensure you have the Aspera Connect plug-in installed prior to attempting download.
The Netflix Ident: Formatting
There are two versions of the Netflix ident: a 4 second version for streaming on Netflix, and a 19 second that is used for theatrical screenings. The Ident should be placed at the head and tail of the editorial timeline, using the following structure as a guideline:
[Start of timeline] 1 second silent black → Netflix ident (4 sec streaming ident or 19 sec theatrical head ident) → 1 second silent black → start of content…
...end of content → end credits → production company cards → 1 second silent black → Netflix ident (4 sec streaming ident or 4 sec theatrical tail ident) → 1 second silent black [End of timeline]
When preparing for IMF creation, the Netflix ident should be removed, with the final file for delivery structured as below (as required by the Netflix Originals Delivery Specifications):
[Start of timeline] 1 second silent black → start of content…
...end of content → end credits → production company cards → 1 second silent black [End of timeline]
